The anticipated action picture ‘RRR’ has been postponed several times, but when will it finally hit theatres around the world? Despite the closure of theatres and the postponement of innumerable projects, the Indian film industry had a fantastic year in 2021.
Fans were dismayed, however, when one of the year’s most anticipated films, ‘RRR,’ was repeatedly delayed because to the ongoing pandemic.
The three teaser trailers for ‘RRR,’ a fictional action film about India’s liberation fighters Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem, have received over 140 million views on YouTube!
Fortunately, the RRR production team has confirmed the theatrical release date for cinemas all around the world.
RRR DELAYED MULTIPLE TIMES DUE TO COVID
The RRR film was supposed to release on July 30th, 2020, however due to the current coronavirus pandemic, it was pushed back to October 13th, and then to January 7th, 2022.
A new wave of rumours began circulating on social media in mid-December, claiming that the film would be postponed once more. Telugu Bulletin was the first to report on this, reporting that pressure was mounting on the distributors to postpone the theatrical release due to continuing Maharashtra film regulations.
Pinkvilla would then contact RRR producer DVV Danayya, who simply stated, “No, no postponement.” Unfortunately, on January 1st, it was revealed that RRR had been postponed ‘indefinitely’ due to an increase in Omicron infections in the United States.
RRR THEATRICAL RELEASE DATE CONFIRMED
The official RRR Twitter feed published a press announcement regarding the theatre premiere on January 21st, 2022, stating that a date has been chosen for March 18th, 2022.
However, according to the statement, this is contingent on domestic theatres being allowed to run at full capacity.
If theatres continue to have difficulty with COVID-related restrictions, RRR will instead launch on April 28th, 2022, according to the social media post.
NETFLIX BAGS THE STREAMING RIGHTS
Zee5, Star India, and Netflix are said to have bought the digital streaming rights to RRR.
This was first reported on social media before being confirmed by Zee5 in a recent blog post, which noted that “the film would stream on the OTT platform after its theatrical run.”
According to the post, the rights were purchased for a whopping Rs 300 crore (about $40 million), but only for Hindi dubbing, with Star India acquiring the rights to a variety of other home languages.
The film will be available on Netflix in a variety of languages, including Hindi, English, and Spanish — more information about dubbing may be found below.
